Winter's Dregs
As winter's dregs thaw away
And days are lengthening,
Beneath the soil something stirs
The first new growth of spring.
Little seeds set forth roots
Bulbs now pierce the earth.
Colours soon set to return,
In the season of rebirth.
Early snowdrops, pearly white
Crocus, purple hued
Little buds awakening,
As life begins anew.
From her slumber Mother Earth
Awakens with the sun,
As hibernating creatures wake,
For springtime, now has come.
