Frost stains window panes Roses dream of summer sun~ Life hides in the ground. The garden sleeps deep Rose stalks turn brown in the snow~ Dry leaves pine with pain A flicker of hope By the porch, almost hidden~ Rose leaves, dark and tough. A stubborn red bud Firmly fights the frost’s cold grip~ A small, silent plea. A dusting of white Coats the tight bud, frozen firm ~ Beauty held in ice. A sudden warm spell Snow melts, a glistening tear~ Rose bud stirs awake. Winter rose unfurls, A splash of coloUr so bright~ A foil against snow. The gardener smiles, A small miracle unfolds~ Life in darkest days. A fragile splendour, A reminder, even now~ Beauty is transient. The winter rose fades, But seeds of courage remain~ Promise for the spring.
