Winter Morning Star

WINTER MORNING STAR

The morning star shines salient and bright
Alone against a colour graded sky
In transient intermission day from night
When worlds half dream, reality yet nigh

The trees dark silhouettes on indigo
That melts to cerulean, red then gold
Towards the eastern margin brightening slow
To hint at dawn, the daybreak will unfold

In frosted field the shrouded horses stand
As statues still and frozen in quiescence
No wish to raise their heads their faces bland
‘Til tepid sun should hint at incandescence

Train passes by no common world incursion
It’s closed space with internal lumination
The passengers in drowsy introversion
Each a universe of personal fixation

Then at their destinations all will rouse
Domains will coincide, their doors unbar
Will they then open minds, the day espouse
To share their vision, see the morning star

Your lovely artistry and amazing rhymes shine in this deep and beautiful poem, Geoffrey. Every meaningful stanza is striking, and I especially loved your 'shrouded horses' imagery -superb! Congratulations on your wonderful win. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

I like this very much, Geoff, but I feel a bit frustrated! I wish it were longer-- you touch on one of the most characteristic aspects of human nature: how we are each a little whirlwind of ego, and we suffer continually under the illusion that we share 'reality' when it does not nor has ever existed. Each of us carries are own reality (as do those 'shrouded horses' -great image, that!) and it's amazing we relate at all to other myriad 'realities' Please, could you write more along these lines.
