Willy Willy's

Looking out the window At the street below Watching life go by As a strong wind begins to blow People shielding their eyes As dust whips up with surprise Willy willy’s zigzag As dirt partially blocks the skies Keep your mouth shut, don’t inhale As the dust becomes a veil Coughing, choking, gagging People stumbling in the gale The street below in chaos Nature showing who is boss Unforgiving, unrelenting Sane minds at a loss Panic sets in...need shelter People running helter skelter Calm at last behind the glass Safe, away from the assaulter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ©copyright Juanita Torr ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Interesting write to read. I'm in the desert with dust storms... Fortunately all seems to be a few miles away. When we were kids we played with the dust devils that whipped around. They weren't over 15 foot high and were spouting over grassy areas at my school. They were more play things to run thru...than any thing else.

I would've understood your poem more if I could relate to going through a similar experience because reading your poem leaves me with some blanks especially the images imagery and language

Have not experienced a dust storm but have choked on some smokey air from our big fire in 2003. Neither one sounds very good. You have painted a vivid picture with your words.

Mine nemesis isn't dust... it's cold, frigid temps with blowing snow. Think I'd prefer the dust! Happy New Year!
