Will To Survive

Tribulations of testing times,
when a result of human crimes,
bring only melancholic rhymes.

You just desire to be understood,
when overwhelmed tears begin to flood.
Where there is not one soul to call,
no one can lift you after your fall.

They say home is where the heart resides,
but when there's emptiness from what fate provides,
you realize what you once took for granted,
was in reality, what your spirit wanted.

Now there are hollow walls with silent floors,
empty baby seats and unopened doors.
Winds blowing vacant swings, increasing pain,
distant strayed images driving you insane.

Muddled mind is in a scattered state of confusion,
wondering when there will be an end conclusion.
Like being lost in Labyrinth's maze without a key,
shouting and screaming, but no one hears your plea.

Tired from injustices served from destiny's dish,
life becomes a constant monotonous death wish.
Yet, you don't have the courage to follow through,
because you know their are people relying on you.

What choice do you have, but to thrive and strive,
because there are daily lessons keeping hope alive.
Dreams can be achieved through courage and drive,
in trials your inner strength finds that will to survive.

WoW! Silent , you have penned such a excellent example for your contest. If you weren’t the host of the contest theme, this would be a front runner for sure. I have missed your pen my friend. Have a wonderful day:-) Alexis

I love this poem, Silent One. In so many ways your words, "Like being lost in Labyrinth's maze without a key, shouting and screaming, but no one hears your plea" really touches home. Saved this one to read again! ~Angie

Silent One, the dire circumstances of your empathic poem would make anyone question their strength of will to survive. As you poem so eloquently illustrates, in the end, we all need to have a reason to hope and a reason to live.. hope, along with love for the those who depend on you, is the lifeblood to life. Sadly, some lose both and they are lost too soon. Your compassionate pen spills inspiring ink, my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

I believe there are very few of us who do not have that will to survive. The fight for life that is worth living. There are some who prefer to have everything handed to them on a platter. They want to be someone's caged pet, but the vast majority of us have that fighting spirit that won't give up. A fine example my friend and an excellent poem as always. God Bless, JB

Yes, I agree, because we all need it.. Sadly, there are still some, who do not have one strong enough and we lose them too early....

"In trials, your inner strength finds that will to survive" So true. Emotions tug at your heart and your talented pen finds them, simply allowing them to fall upon the page. I am sure many can relate to these words. This is sad and tender, all at the same time. ~ Brandy

Silent One, this is beautifully written! I just feel sorry for anyone else who lives alone during a pandemic. It's been hard to find that "will to survive" lately. Your reference to being lost in a labyrinth's maze sounds like some of the nightmares I've had. It's only the desire to see family again (nearly a year absent) that keeps me going. Your poem is a fave for me!! Hugs, Carolyn

This is a exceptional write and example. I'm actually bipolar and, due to my illness, can relate to the poems that share a bit of the upheaval and angst found in living.. Thankfully, medicine has me stable and I can function well, but bipolar disorder is a difficult place to be some days. Love your write my friend.. You're always such a kind and comforting blessing to me and to read. God bless you always, Love, Gina

You always say the most sweetest and kindest things. I believe poetry should be used to express not only how we feel, but also how others may feel.. Being bipolar is a difficult conditions and one that many do not understand.. Thank you for all your support.
