Will His Majesty Become Extinct

WILL HIS MAJESTY BECOME EXTINCT Poachers arrive in scores of ten, Made up of brutal, evil men, Their strength lies in their guns and nets, They have already placed their bets, As to how they will be rewarded, For slaying this King, Will it be dollars or diamonds, That bling? Poachers take the lions bones, Skins and head, For unsubstantiated notions, They are used as potions, Which are sold for a ridiculous price, And of course a dead lion in tact, With his head, Is the ultimate prize.. Wealthy greedy men, Have also developed this yen To hunt lions, Farms are set up for financial gain, Churning millions of dollars, Due to this detestable game! These loathsome People put their trophy, On show for all to see, How brave they appear to be. This horrendous cowardly act, Is a very sad fact, That we are on the brink, Of our majestic lions, Becoming extinct!

Hi ^ WW^ - I apologise but only just noticed this comment - Lions are majestic and always a pleasure to spot at the Kruger Park, but of course that is from our car only - imagine if we become extinct who will run our planet - the apes? Ha Ha. Hugs, Jennifer.

Hi Gordon, Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately and very sadly, the rot begins with people who have power and position, and therefore not an easy task to be weeded out. I'm very glad you feel as I do. Acting collectively is the only strategy! Kind regards, Jennifer

Jennifer, this poem made me think about something I was not aware of, it is an evil that I cannot comprehend. I am ashamed of the humans who would do this.

And yet they continue Caren, and it's not just small groups of people or individuals, they are large syndicates who become filthy rich poaching - detestable, cruel and inhumane. Thank-you for your comment. xoxo Jennifer

There would not be poachers if governments acted sensibly instead of in the best interests of the wealthy. What could be more stupid than burning elephant tusks to inflate the price and promote more poaching? Or promoting the poaching of lions just so someone's salon lion becomes more valuable? Elect people with some integrity! Aloha! Rico

Very very sad. These Poachers need to be hunted as they hunt our beautiful animals. A poem that should be put up on all the Media. I really enjoy your diverse poems. KIm

Hi Kai, We live on the East Rand near Carnival Mall but have recently bought a house in Midstream (Irene) area) renting it at the moment. Toying with the idea of immigrating but difficult as one gets older. our son suggested Ecuador! is cost of living reasonable in Spain? Glad you liked my poem, its a crying shame what is happening to our lions at the moment. Best regards, Jennifer (P)
