Notes About The Poem

Wild n Free

The squirrels scamper across the yard,
little critters reminding me life can be hard
they work all the year, storing their nuts
sometimes suffering from wounds and cuts

The birds zoom and flutter across the sky
precious wings, gentle – flying so high
they search everywhere for flowers, seeds
thrive in the summers who supply all their needs

The deer so amazing, glide across the hills
beautiful creatures whose joy never stills
they seek peace in the woods where they stay
breathing amid the trees, whose leaves seem to pray

The best of the seasons are found in the hearts
of all the peaceful animals whose grace never departs
because of their beauty, their gentle grace and calm
the forests and skies seem filled with a tender psalm

All of God’s creatures are meant to bring us joy
so even when we fail to see, how we must annoy
with our highways, cars and truck, houses of wood
ending their adventures just because we could

How they must worry about the forest going away
as we send them farther with everything we say
How they must need to find a quiet, peaceful place
amid the shadows of the trees so tall and full of grace

Only God Himself can tell us the truth of our mistakes
we conquered the world without seeing the highest stakes
When we let our guard down and realize what this means
we find, in the silence, as we see behind the scenes…

This modern world we live in, with all its destructive things
can’t possibly make us happy with all the ruin it brings
and when we listen to the forest, with the animal’s who agree
we’ll realize we need to change – to save the wild and free

oh, how we’ve broken promises, to those who believed
we’d stop our damage, so our forest friends who grieved
would see that we meant to give them a chance
to follow instincts, seek life amid the oaks who dance
