Why Should I Give You a Dollar
A man came up to me at the railway station
and yelled at me "give me a dollar"
I yelled back "No"
Taking a seat beside the track
he came up and pretended
to be a different person
asking "why didn't you give that man a dollar"
I replied "I got up this mornng at five thirty
I've worked a double shift, it's now ten o'clock at night
I'm going home, I've got a mortgage
and lots of other problems,
why should I give him a dollar,
I've worked hard for my wage
why can't he work hard for his
kids sit on unemployment benefits
they lie to get more money
surely they could get a job
and earn a wage to be proud of themselves
with a job come's self respect,
with a job come's your parents respect,
with a job you don't have to ask for my dollar".
