Notes About The Poem

A phalburger is a a non-citzen enjoying the benefits of a citizen (but not adherring to the laws of that jurisdiction, example non-Christians coming to America and not obeying the Christian doctrine. America being founded on a Judeo-Christian ethic). John Ballance was the Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1891-1893. Blut is German for blood.

Why I Like Writing Poetry

Why I like writing poetry
I can write about the LORD
I can write about HIStory
And hopefully bring Him glory
I can write about myself and be kind
I can pull dusty ideas off of the shelf of my mind
I can write about all the warts and blemishes
As He aesthetically heal us written in His refrain

I can write seductively or not
I can write gibberish or something with a plot
Write something blasphemous I will not
Tossing ideas around as I lay on this cot
I can write something that A.I. cannot
That's nuance and personal and it's my best shot
A.I. at best is a algorithm and repeat again

I can write with and play with different words
I can pull from the bank of knowledge
I have gained as I walk toward, toward the LORD
I can wrestle with a verse and a form
For better or worse until an idea is born
Because sometimes ideas just flow
While others take time as we wait on the train

And as I note what others have wrote
I am amazed (even jealous) of what others have scrolled
I can write about the irony of John Ballance
And his accidental and deadly fall
And sometimes I am stuck somewhere between
A blank page and what's been written in totality, all
Inspiration striking anywhere while waiting on the rain

I can write a Phalburger's hymn
Or take an atheist's placebo, for sure that's no cure
Or I can write about what Jesus did
In a world (that couldn't contain it all) filled with doubt
"Put your hand in My side and see the nail prints too"
This is why I like to write poetry
Because of the juxtaposition of all the differing strain

P.S. Have I written my best poem yet?
I am not interested in that narcissistic pursuit
I would rather use my rhyme time
And honor The Gift of gifts Who cleanses with His blut

I love this poem, Michael. It really catches thoughts. I've had jealousy over someone's aptitude with their lines. Poetry gives us wings to soar over any topic and here you've shown honor to our Lord. Something reassuring beyond the higher call of faith, is your stanza on A.I. It will never be as flawed, as unique, as heartfelt, as adventurous, or as grace filled as a humans perspective. It's good to read from your ink!

Thanks a million Jesse for your words. It's a serendipitous blessing when another poet enjoys my work. Yeah (as you've said) "A.I. It will never be as flawed, as unique, as heartfelt, as adventurous, or as grace filled as a humans perspective." God's blessings speed to you Jesse......Michael
