Why Do They Say-They Say

It strikes me in an unusual way.
Who is this,'they'?
And why do we believe this 'they',
In almost a fanatical way?

There are no question asked!
No saying is put to task.
Not by this poetess~
It makes her arch back!!

We believe each 'they say',
More than any commandment.
I say with unequivocal delay!
Stop saying this, it promotes
grave, mental decay.

These 'they says' are from
dead people, don't you know?
Many from great poets whose 
feet were on this earth, centuries 
ago.

Many are sayings just lifted out of 
their poems.
And taken as eternal truths we live 
by.
Not this poetess, by God, who lives by
...'question why!'

I don't want to be a hapless ninny 
With a brain of shaky memory that
is skinny.
All these "they says", may have
a warm, cozy feeling.
Not to me~who wants a rational 
answer with meaning.

Otherwise, there is just air under
that hat.

I am particularly struck by the last sentence of this poem, - "Not to me~who wants a rational answer with meaning"- As I too can really relate to that sentiment and "question why" myself a lot :-) - All the very best to you. They believe anything in print has veracity? They never check things online...like at Snopes.com. Time people do due diligence. They believe MDs like gods.. They never question a thing? I do.
