Why Are We Here

Why are We here?
Let`s ask ourselves why are we here
And delve down the depth of our soul,
Let us down our self strive to peer
And find in life our real goal.
A soft voice from within murmurs:
We`re here the human kind to raise,
To bring our bricks to build shelters
For those in need, looking not for praise.
We`re here to bring a helping hand
To those in want of a loaf for the day,
And to those in distress be a true friend
Or bring to them hope on their way.
We are here as instruments of the Lord
To implement His grace and compassion
That no man on the earthly abode
Is ignorant of His lofty mission.
We are here to mark our footprint
In the roll of the human race
That will resonate in bold print
For ever across time and space.
We are here not to harp on I and me,
But to serve the Almighty Lord,
Not to gratify the human body
To the utmost we can afford.
First and foremost, and above all
As temporary travellers
We are here to distil our soul
And to discern the Lord`s marvel.
We are here for lives after lives
Our soul to clear and purify
Until no more we are at strife,
Until our body and soul are allies.
We are here on earth until we are fit
The cycle of birth and death to shatter,
This world without remorse to quit
At the Lord`s shrine to seek shelter,
To seek bliss and liberation
Free from the earthly web of illusion
In search of divine unification*.
*"But he who unites himself with the Lord is is one who with in spirit"
6.17 Corinthians (Majority Standard Bible)
