Why Am I a Man Not Great

Brother John, you ask why am not great?
I can tell you its not because i sometimes appear late
It’s not because sometimes my words are not straight
It’s not because I am a person who can wait

Brother John, I am a man not great because my shoulders are carrying a lot of weight
Some of this weight is mine
But a lot of it is the burden and responsibilities of my mates
Who believe they are not great because of fate
Fate is not on our side
Fate it seems cannot even self locate

Brother John, I am not great because am carrying a lot of weight
I understand this weight is not lightweight
But you see I fear saying no because a lot of these mates were once my playmates

My life follows a mandate
My life carries too much weight
That is why I am a man who is not great.
