Who Was There When I Was Gone?

Who was there when I was gone?
Running from pain, a childhood gone wrong
Who was there when I was gone?
Abandoned soul, silent tears to fall
Who was there when I was gone?
A ghost of a mother sleepwalking through it all
Who was there when I was gone?
Watching me stumble and trying to belong
Who was there when I was gone?
Living in fear, hiding behind walls
Who was there when I was gone?
Weakness prevailing, yearning to be strong

You were there waiting for me
Knowing my pain, praying for relief
You were there waiting for me
Comforting soul, my heart to see
You were there waiting for me
Hanging on while I was asleep
You were there waiting for me
I was still there you always believed
You were there waiting for me
To open my heart and set it free
You were there waiting for me
Tender soul always loving me

Who was there when I was gone?
You were there waiting for me…
