Who Am I

Who am I, to deny the love, That flows so freely through my bones, Rushing from head to heart? And who am I, to sit in silence, When my heart could burst out of its cage And sing and twirl and whirl and dance? And who am I, to let you go, Day after day as you pass by in the hall, The sweet scent of you meeting me? And who am I, to ignore the desire, That makes my fingertips tingle with longing, As you walk in front of me? And as I am surrounded by the angels, That sing harmoniously, a symphony just for you, Then who am I? Who am I, to push my feelings aside, For the sake of society's twisted rules, When it would be easier to succumb to my instincts? Who am I, to ignore the simple fact, That as I flit past you in the enclosed expanse, My nerves are on fire from the closeness of you? Who am I, to deny myself the pleasure Of you, when it is clear as day to even a blind man, That I am so ridiculously in love with you? And who am I, to live my life in the shadows Of a love so overpowering, a love so great, A love that is not, will never be, has never been before? Who am I?
