White Tiger

Born in the year of rabbit Fa Mu Lan was
filled with honor and wisdom. She received
great power from her name and became a
doctor to heal the sick and remove the powerful
ghosts who had invaded China. These ghosts
were anyone who wasn't Chinese.
Fa Mu Lan was greatly respected by her people
for her wisdom and healing with fire and oils.
The people called her the shaman name
White Tiger because she healed them.
She worked long and hard and kept very few
belongings, caring very little for money.
She practiced the art of medicine by traveling
between the physical and spiritual worlds.
The Chinese people saw many ghosts invading
their land which made them sick in both body
and mind. In China a ghost was any person who
was not Chinese. Thus, the ghosts were very
real to them. Fears ate away at the people
like wild black crabs clawing their prey,
but the White Tiger cured them whenever she
could with her daggers and flaming oils.

You are starting to get into imagery in the last 5 lines. "At that point in time a ghost in China was any person who was not Chinese." you have said this twice Julie...I have an idea, start the verse at the last five lines make the end the beginning. Show her curing people? What was she wearing? What kind of oil? Show her applying the oil & the fire? She may have been doing "cupping" what's the setting. Did they sit on the floor? What do you see and smell and taste if you are the White Tiger?

I see you all found some inspiration while I was not at the Soup this weekend. I enjoyed reading your poetry today and will be back again soon to read more Julie. May you have a week of good health, joy and sunshine to light up your life. Wishing you the best in Debbie's contest. By the way did you forget about your contest you have not judged yet. People are hanging to see if they win. Love, Carol

Well Julie, loved reading about other cultures, and this is wondeful, so rich in its knowledge, so rich in the way it was written, if this is for a contest, good luck. Harry
