White Horses

My Grandmother said, when she was just three,
she’d seen the white horses ride in from the sea.

Now I stand at the lighthouse and see the white manes
stream behind horses that run without reins,
racing each wave and rushing for home –
to reach the gold sand where they melt into foam.

What wonderful images, Jeanette! My words pale next to the rush of the white horses... Bravo! :) Gershon

This is beautifully written Jeanette. Perfect rhyming and I love how the white cresting of the waves are associated with white horses. The world through the eyes of a child’s imagination running wild - just like those horses. Cheers. - Gary

A lovely, compact sea poem that carries childhood wonder through generations. The white horses are a vivid, magical image for the advancing waves, while the gentle rhyme and flowing rhythm beautifully mimic their swift movement toward the shore. The final transformation into foam is especially enchanting.

Awn gosh! This is absolutely mystical! And magical! And breathtaking! 🌊🌊🐎 That line ~ "racing each wave and rushing for home – to reach the gold sand where they melt into foam" ahhh I could easily imagine those miridical horses rushing and then folding into foam..as they fade.. some magical realisations as they come in life.. through symbolism.. and memories.. i felt so much whilst reading this one, dear Jeanette.. hope you are well. Sending you starlight and moonbeams 🌙⭐💫🧚‍♀️ a FAVE ~

Thanks so much Hiya, My Nanna recalled seeing the wave-tops freeze in Gawler harbour UK I think when she was a child. (I'm in Aus so not something I've seen like that, but love wave watching.) I am well, but my daughter has been seriously unwell but now doing OK - Such a blessing to have her health back.
