White Dog

White Dog tell me stories
Of the places near and far
Of nights upon the ocean
Following a star
Tell me stories of adventure
And a Caribbean breeze
Or fighting swirling winds
Upon the mighty seas
Let me dream once more of sailing
And peaceful tropical nights
Gazing at the Southern Cross
Standing beneath the Northern Lights
White Dog carry me away
To where my dreams were bold and young
To feel the wind against my face
And the salt upon my tongue
Let me feel the gentle waves
On a night that’s calm and warm
Then stand in awe of her fury
In the midst of a tropical storm
White Dog bring my dreams to life
Of sailing days that never end
I see you sitting on the sand
Rest peacefully my friend.

Beautiful poem that brings it all to life so vividly. I especially love the line about the tropical storm, as storms are one of my favorite things, and storms at sea are so tremendouly awe-inspiring. Love the last line too. ~Juliane

I can see the portrayal of the white dog extended metaphor. It brings life to the poem. It also flows consistently as a theme. I like the essence of the piece and the images at sea. Great job for the U.S. Navy! ~Joseph

When you write these poems of the sea, you make this mountain girl, want to live closer to the ocean, perhaps even sail away on the seven seas. Great job here, Vince, very enjoyable to read the lust in your heart for the water. ~ God Bless, Carrie

this is absolutely beautiful. this is not really a departure. i have lost about 55 poems when poetry.com went out of business. they just told us our poems were transferred to beta poets or something. when i looked at some of them the transferred them in paragraphs. this makes me so irritated. soon i will try and find them and put them here. i like this site. have you ever read JeanMarie Marchese...she is my favorite girl poet ever. thanks for your comments. janetta.

Oh man, this is so incredibly beautiful. You sure have the gift to capture the magic feeling of a adventurous life on the sea you once lived. And what a life it must have been. I am completely swept away. One of your best for sure, though there are so many. : ) Love, Shar

Vince, your poem White Dog is a beautiful portrayal of drifting of thoughts to the domain of serenity and peace. Remarkable. Your comment on my Quatrain Lover of Peace is heartwarming. We seem to be fighting for the same noble cause. - Mohammad
