Whispers and Fears

  The avoidance, the whispers, the fear
    of fellow Jews now daily I hear

  Do I dare walk around with my skullcap on
    If I see Palestinians, should I run

  Tonight marks the first Chanukah light
    that 21st century Jews crouch in fear, out of sight

It is so sad, Gershon, that so many are feeling this way. A relative of my friend, who has a young child, took down the mezuzah from her door in fear of what might happen in her neighborhood. Scary stuff! In my son’s neighborhood in the suburbs, though, many lawns proudly display Israeli flags and signs that say “We stand with Israel.” Makes me glad to see that…
