Whine Not

Wanted sleep – “death will guarantee it, one un-promised morrow” Hunger panged – “a meal or two skipped, will not ruin your health” Icky grossness – “psyche your gut strong and start gutting the Ahi” No appetite – “waste not, and think of all those dying of starvation” Elevated brags – “you’re no better than other mortals, we’ll all die!” Never minded a child’s request: do as I say, not as I do, always won Of the unceasing smoking, lungs blackened to cough a bloody achoo The whine isn’t always groundless; listen fore you bullishly silence it! First, I thought the pun of Whine Not (Why not?) was brilliant, as children often will say 'why not' and parents will often say 'whine not' (or some variation thereof). Second, the quoted lines were often heard during my childhood and almost never comprehended. I ended up translating them to "Just be quiet and keep your thoughts to yourself". Third, I quite agree with your conclusion and tried (not always successfully) to listen to my children's grievances before writing them off. Brava! ~ John

I was hard-pressed to find what to write...with that title which destiny chose for me hehe...I take a lot of my titles from the names of boats I survey...kinda of a melding of work and play and I like to see where each takes me...this one led to mother who was such a hard woman but she loved us nonetheless...I learnt early to just shut up as you say.. thanks John :)
