WHILE THE STARS WERE SLEEPING
The sky was a blanket of clouds this morning…no birds were singing…no rabbits leaping.
I imagine underneath that blanket…a million stars were sleeping.
I miss the stars when they’re asleep…when our morning walk we cannot share…
but I do take some solace and find some comfort in knowing they’re still there.
So…while the stars were sleeping and I was walking on my own…
I decided, on a whim, to flip through the pictures on my phone.
Like most people, I imagine, my phone is filled to capacity
with pictures from my life…photos of places, friends and family.
And I thought…how wonderful…how exciting…my phone is a memoir…
filled, as I flipped through photos…with a myriad of stars.
Shooting stars…flashing for a moment…as shooting stars are prone…
but a moment I feel blessed…to have captured on my phone.
And in my heart and in my mind…a new thought was given birth:
How lucky I am to be surrounded by so many stars on Earth.
Stars right here on my phone…that I forever shall be keeping…
an awareness made on a cloudy night…
while all the other stars were sleeping.
