Where Was the Love

Never gave encouragement
just a roof and nourishment
Never heard the words “well done”
too often “what have you done”
so far from expectations
was the word “congratulations”
wanted us to walk the path you walked
so we would learn how you did
could have known with words talked
but we wouldn’t suffer as you did
didn’t acknowledge when I achieved
over the top deliver me grief
your job was feed clothe give a place to sleep
no love but the cold punishments on which you’d leap
don’t listen care or do what others think
empathy and compassion like moods created sink
without the love what you did is not enough
now as you get older it comes back too you tough
