Where Tears Come From

I wish I knew where tears come from
The eyes are where they show
But what goes on behind the scenes
That makes a teardrop grow?

Are they planted by emotion,
Then picked when they are ripe?
Are the shirt sleeves only purpose
To catch the tears we wipe?

Are they always on the surface
Or buried someplace deep?
Do our teardrops have a number
That's counted as we weep?

And what about those tears of joy
That mixes with our smile
They're always few and far between
Then only last a while

I wish I knew where tears come from
And if you're wondering why
I'd rid the world of all its pain
So we would never cry

Hello Larry,I just finished reading your poem,it would be nice to get rid of pain.Yes it would be good not to cry.It would be nice to know where tears came from.It would be nice if we had no pain. But when needed it is good to cry.
