Notes About The Poem

image from news.sky.com

“This winter, many Texas cities have seen less than a half-inch of rainfall causing extreme drought to expand rapidly across the state. (Source: expressnews.com) Here in North Texas, we’ve had no rain since mid-October raising concerns about water demands on a depleting system.

WHERE ARE THE WEEPING CLOUDS

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ frost cracks empty soil~ no mercy in cloudless skies, thirsty roots gasp deep river stones whisper, dust where minnows once shimmered~ ghosts drink the moonlight snowless mountains plead~ dry throats of sleeping cedars dream of weeping clouds
I worked in Dallas for 21 yrs, lived in Cedar Hill, (I was the plumbing/HVAC construction site secretary for the green glass, rocket-like high-rise downtown, then Meyerson Symphony Ctr) so I hear you and recall yearly drought induced worry. I'm not a dedicated Texan as I believe you are (?) - I'm glad to be back on the east coast. My fav TX weather is the chunks of ice God dumps from His cooler each April. I do love Hill Country, Wimberley/Waxahachie & Nacogdoches are stunning, like your poem.
