When You Have To Bury Your Brother

When you have to bury your brother
but there's nothing left to cover
push the frigid snow to the side.
Scoop some up in your freezing hands.
Make a snowball.
Throw it at your face like he used to do.
Smile for him
so wide your face is stuck like that forever.

When you have to bury your brother
but there's nothing left to cover
think of all those silly things he used to make.
Drawings.
Sculpture.
Inventions that did nothing at all.
Try making one yourself.
Who knows
maybe you were as good as him all along.

When you have to bury your brother
but there's nothing left to cover
don't cry for him.
Tell him to rest well
and enjoy himself in the afterlife.
Remember the love you felt for him.
And the love
he felt
for you.
