When the Winds Change
All of life is but a ship at sea
Sailing along, very free
Its only friend is the breeze
Caressing its sails with ease
When the winds blow north
The ship moves forth
Venturing along into new shores
Like when life opens doors
When the breezes blow south
None dares open his mouth
For dangers and perils are near
Threatening that which is dear
When the winds blow to the east
All movement is then ceased
The ship stops and even moves back
Just as when life turns pitch black
When the breeze blows west
It is time for a little rest
To recharge on a new shore’s banks
And to give the gods many thanks
Then again, when the winds are good
The shipmaster checks his ship’s wood
Out of the sea, the anchor rises
And life brings on new surprises
