When the Quiet Comes

When the quiet comes at evening
And the world has shut its door,
I feel the weight of all the hours
I was brave, and nothing more.

I have carried so much tenderness
Like water in my hands,
Spilling love along the road
Where no one understands.

The stars look down so patiently,
They do not ask me why
My heart still breaks for gentler days
That only learned to die.

I loved the earth for what it was—
For rain, for birds, for light,
For the way a single human voice
Can make the dark feel bright.

But oh, the cost of loving deeply
In a world that turns away,
Where kindness is a fragile thing
That bruises when you stay.

If I should rest before the dawn
And lay my sorrow down,
Tell the wind I tried to hope,
Tell the sky I did not drown.

I believed in beauty quietly,
In goodness rarely seen,
In the small, unguarded moments
Where the heart stays clean.

And if you feel a sudden ache
When evening fills the air,
It may be only love I left
Still waiting for your care

I thought the repetition made this more beautiful. :)

Dear Paige, That was a typo that I have since fixed. Thank you for pointing it out.
