Notes About The Poem

When the Gift of Giving Has Gone

Have you longed to give your heart just for the sake of giving? Withheld for years, for pain and tears spark fear that steals from living a full, enriched, and glorious life where joy outweighs the sorrow ~ one in which one yearns to live, believing in tomorrow. And if you thought to finally give what’s ached to be set free, to make a change, jumpstart your heart, within a moment be everything you hoped for but could never quite conceive; then, once again, encountered thieves who lie, cheat, and deceive... Would you then quit, throw in the towel, no more to fight again; or hold on tight, steadfast, and strong and pray that love will win? Engaging in a battle as such may introduce defeat, but walk away and casualties will knock you off your feet. Consider this, if it is true that earth is heaven’s floor, then love should rule ~ a truth transcribed upon each person’s core. Could we succeed in loving self as much as we love others, we just might heal and bear the strength to stand aside our brothers. Then, we could all give from the heart with kindness and compassion for fear will lose all reasoning when love becomes the fashion.

WoW! Hello, You have penned a remarkable poem. I think this should be read by everyone on this site. I believe in the end " love" will be triumphant and "hate" will have to surrender. Love for our fellow man is something that we "all" strive for. I see why Gershon got inspired by this phenomenal write. Excellent job. This is going straight into my favs. Have a wonderful evening:-) Alexis

Let's hope compassion is in fashion for a long time... There are people in this world less fortunate than us, so we can't stop giving... Nice rhymes and flow in your pOEM...

Thank you, Silent One. I hope we can all be brave enough and willing to give from the heart one day! A little bit of healing on the inside, I think, can go a long way in changing the lives of many :)

I think we all want to give our heart away without fear though the wrong love can take a toll leaving it harder to knock down the walls , even make us believe we are not worthy of more ... I like this one. I can relate. great penning HT :) it speaks to me ....

It seems we think differently on one point here. Where you say: should we succeed in loving self as much as we love others... I think it's the opposite. Too many people do not love others as much as themselves. Am I wrong? I enjoyed your new poem, and thanks for your comments on mine.

Thank you, Andrea, for sharing your thoughts with me :) I understand exactly what you are saying. I think it is definitely a more common way of thinking. But for some, if they could only manage enough self-love, I think it would be easier to heal, then give and live more fearlessly. Does this make sense? For me, if I could figure that part out, I would be more well-equipped to be there for others, I think.

I don't know how I missed this but I found it now. Those last two lines say it all, though the entire poem is beautifully filled with hope and kindness, those final lines did it for me. Really nice HT. If only more would read this and follow it's lead...

This is very well written and rhymed. I think sometimes it's the looking that throws one off. I was married twice with awful results, then confirmed for 17 years until al last I met the one. We've been together 22 years, married 19. Who knew?! Great pen my friend......pat
