Listen to poem:

When the Cardinal Sings

When the Cardinal Sings
David J Walker

The first alert of the
Coming dawn
Drawn in silhouette
Across the azure horizon

The Cardinals song
Sung in imbricate solos

Whose name does she
Sing
Whose spirit is carried
Across the morning sky
On her wing

I read the morning paper
To see if it is me
