When My Family Ate Together

Many years ago have fond memories

of my family sitting down to a fine meal

mom had prepared for us that left

our plates empty each time.

Smiles that were at the old supper table,

each night of the week, we were a

family that was together and so close

knitted.

Brother, sister and me washing those

dishes, what a great team we were,

after all of these years, miss those

happy days of youth,

sometimes thinking of it brings

a tear.

Only sister and myself are left

from those days when my family ate together.

Family's today don't eat together as

days of long ago, it's a shame,

but time moves on.

We called it supper and my mom stayed home and raised us. Supper was on the table when my dad came home from work. He worked in a grocery store up the street. We always knew where the car keys were. They were in the ignition of the old Ford. Try that today and the car would be missing. Great memories. Vince

What a lovely nostalgic piece, James. And, no, it's very true - my family never sits together to eat, not even on Xmas Day.

So very true. It is a sad thing nowadays that we can't take the time to eat a meal with each other like back then. Very wonderful write as expected:)

Oh, I miss those dinners too, James. Especially the ones on Sunday when a family of five shared a succulent chicken and spoke of dreams and hopes. Our parents are gone now and on the rare occasions when my sister, brother and I get together, there is always a sadness that our parents aren't with us. Very moving. If you're not already on my favorite poets list, you will be in a moment. Thank you for sharing all these precious stories of your family. Love, Carolyn
