When Love Flies Away

Sometimes at night, in the soft twilight when the full moon hangs low in the sky I’ll hear your voice sing, from long ago and listen before its tune takes flight. As I shiver with the fading thought of seasons missed since you have been gone this heart of mine is still intertwined to the essence of your pure love song. Come to me now, through darkness of night though pall of death has snatched you away let me fall into your warm embrace surround me again in light of day. When frost of winter defers to spring and dewdrops have shed their morning tears I cross verdant hillsides to meet you with flowers to mark the passing years. As birds trill songs near your quiet grave I’ll sing with you in heaven someday. Written on 6/29/2022

Laura, this is beautiful in its melancholy longing for a lost love. I love the line "When frost of winter defers to spring" and also how music triggers the bittersweet memories, but also the pleasant thought of reuniting in heaven. Very lovely ~ John
