When I'M Gone

When this fragile body fades,
This heart of mine does cease to beat;
When I arrive at Heaven’s gate,
On earth, will you remember me?

Will you remember how I lived?
The many things I’ve said and done?
Will you say I was a friend?
A father, brother, or a son?

Will you look kindly on my face
Just as I’m lowered to the grave?
Or will you curse my bloodless corpse,
And say you hate me on that day?

I wonder, will you shed a tear
And wish me in a better place?
Or will you say you held me dear
In mind and heart when I’m away?

When this road of mine is tread,
And all life’s treasures pass away
With all the joy and sorrow spent,
Will you remember me that day?
