When I Was Your Age

When I was your age some bad guys bombed a church In the deep south, and four Sunday School girls were murdered The President of the United States was assassinated And then his brother was gunned down We saw this in black, white and gray, On TV sets that are smaller than your computer monitor. It was a crazy, uncertain, scary time, and we were fearful. Told the Russians were going to kill us with an atomic bomb Some of us had bomb shelters. We also had drills at school Where we hid under flimsy desks Putting our hands over our heads. Elvis Presley came out and wiggled And our mothers and fathers shut off the TV We were told he was a bad guy When I was your age.
