When I Was Real

Once upon a time,
I seem to remember
Being a whole person...
One that was real...
Enjoying life...
Surely was no big deal...
No hopes or unfulfilled yearnings,
To make my self confidence reel,
Or pain to live with so bad,
In supplication I did kneel....
And in envious jealousy,
I longed to successfully steal...
Not fun when you're no longer whole,
No longer a valid being...
And visions of defeat,
Is all that you're seein',
How it came to this,
You'll never figure out...
Once smiling in sunshine...
Now all you can do is pout...
So, just remember one thing,
You're far from alone...
Countless others do sing,
The misery of life,
And fate's oft painful deep sting.
