When I was 14

At 14, brought him home without telling when I saw him near a sewer, yelling
I held him in my hand, his body with ticks and sand
I put him in a carton box and kept him near my shoes and socks
Though we had a sleepless night we'd wake up in the morning just to fight
I put him into cage of iron and rust, he took his time and tried to adjust
Faster he grew, notorious too
Come what may, his love was true
Little battles he brought turned into a war
For being who he was, he was pushed afar
Somewhere I didn't know, somewhere I couldn't go
But slowly time passed like it was ages ago
January 9th, he completed a year
I couldn't say "Happy Birthday, my brown furry dear"
Although he waited happily to give a pounce
All I ever did was meeting him just once

One day his kidneys suddenly stopped
He cried for long, next moment he passed
Leaving me in our world all alone
Without saying a goodbye, he was gone
I lost a friend who was my cure
Or have I lost myself, I'm not quite sure
I lost the person who troubled me when I was home but whined when I left
Our night walks to meet his girlfriends were his best
I lost the one who I trained to jump n sit
But I couldn't witness his last moments, not even a bit
I still get in the stairs of my terrace with my furry friend
And then I realise he has already met his end
