Notes About The Poem

A little on the tough side, I know. I'm prone to some moods, and sorry for them.

When I Get Like This

When I Get Like This

When I get like this,
Try not to run away and hide.
When I get like this,
Try to see my other side.

When I get like this,
Remember this will pass,
When I get like this,
Remember you're my first and last.

     Though I cannot say
     What changes make me stray,
     What devil burns inside
     That steals away my pride
     And makes me someone else
     No longer know myself,
Know that down within I'm still the same
For my deeds I'll take the blame.

So when I get like this,
Just put it all on me.
When I get like this,
Well, just don't see
I'm not who I was
Nor what I want to be,
Just a man
Adrift at sea.

You need never fear
My dam will break,
My demons' desolation
In their wake.
I hold them firm,
I hold them fast -
Until their fury
Is done and past.

I will never let them reach you my Love
You, my Angel, from Above.

So when I get like this ...
When I get like this...
Remember I'm a man
Doing what he can
Not to be the thing that he can't stand -

And just turn away
Wait for the light of day
The beast will skulk away at night,
Everything will be alright

Just turn away
When I get like this,
When I get - like - this.
