What Will Be Said?

What will be said of me
when my time has come?
What will be truly felt?
Will others come undone?
If I were to go today,
would they bat an eye?
Would they speak kindly,
if perhaps I should die?
My worry is now focused on
the words they’ll use for me.
Will it be a long or short,
but sweet, eulogy?
Why, now when I am healthy,
do I wonder about my passing?
I would be so better off
if life was everlasting.
So many things I said I’d do,
but never had the chance,
like write that book, climb the Alps
and teach myself to dance.
I wished to feed the hungry
and give shelter to poor.
I wished to show all lost souls
the way to my front door.
So, now I’m here wallowing
in my self pity and my shame,
wondering if they will even
remember or recall my name.
So, if you feel that time’s too short,
and still wish to change your fate.
Then, focus on what I’ve just said
before it becomes too late.
