What We Eat

The vegans eat their vegetables,
The carnivores their meat.
The gluten-haters stay away
From foods containing wheat.

The carbohydrate shunners
Won’t eat pasta, cake or bread
But can eat a pound of bacon,
Not the healthiest, instead.

Organic fruits and veggies,
Plus organic milk and cheese
Are believed to lengthen life, although
There are no guarantees.

There are those who don’t eat dairy;
There are those who don’t eat pork.
There are some who just use chopsticks
And reject the knife and fork.

There are decaf coffee drinkers;
Others guzzle their caffeine.
Everybody has a preference
When it comes to their cuisine.

So I’ll eat the foods I relish
And you eat the foods you choose
Since we both have the option, when offered
One another's repast, to refuse.

I'm in this poem, Ilene, so I can appreciate it. Of course I wouldn't be myself if I didn't cheat a little with carbohydrates and other diabetic no-nos, like real samolina pasta or a flaky breakfast pastry with my coffee or a littl ice cream when the need is overwhelming. Fortunately wine is for any time in moderation. An enjoyable poem in your signature style. / M

Nice last line Ilene. It implies were victims of our own stupidity - or patrons of our ignorance. LOL Original idea. Well done Ilene. Trevor

Well observed Ilene, us humans are a finnicky lot, one mans meat is another mans poison. Tom
