What We Don'T See

Animals caged in a zoo.

What makes eyes lonely?

Dare we see?

Thank you nette.....the very reason I haven't been to one in my adult years...I understand the purpose intended but it sure comes at a cost to those poor animals...as children we so enjoyed getting to see the animals we only saw in our story books but as adults realize at what cost..loose loose..situation:-(

Hi Nette....reminds me of a small, barbaric zoo in a small Wisconsin town I went to school in.....a badger was furtively pacing ....endlessly...the perimeter of its 6' square cement-floored cage....a child passing by remarked to her parent 'why does the badger walk around the cage the whole time, mommy?' mom said 'that's what they do honey' I wanted to say...'how noble, the eternal hope of freedom from this hell, he displays!' But I shut my mouth...

A pointed question you raised here. Makes me think of how these creatures need to roam free. Excellent poem I resonate with!
