What Lies Within

What Lies Within
“What is this strange place we find ourselves in Trapped in the open, we are free within?” Ideas, like the ocean, there’s no end in sight Yet shared among peers may bring panic, no light. Our hearts, how they dance to such symphonic sounds Our bodies rejected and kept within bounds. Yearning to scatter our innermost thoughts Restrained by the chains of a world never sought. Can we escape this unchosen venue? Perhaps empathy might change our world’s view…

Meghan, there is a sense of struggle and sadness with this one. Each couplet introduces a different angle: trapped, panic, rejected, within bounds, scatter, restrained, escape... all drawn from your talent for expression and perhaps life experiences. The narrative points to a bird in a cage, longing to soar on wings of freedom; a theme of universal appeal. The ending suggests a humanitarian solution: empathy for those so suffering. Lovely imagery, rhythm, and message, my friend. God bless ~ John

Meghan, I truly appreciate your perspective on this contest. The dilemma of living is that we are free, yet our actions and words will always be scrutinized. I'm pleased I dropped by to read your excellent poem. Thank you for your visit and kind feedback on my poem. I hope we will continue to share or consider our shared thoughts and poems.

Thank you so much, Mystic Rose Rose!! I, too, pray that our views and actions will be taken with empathetic hearts and change the world. If that were to happen, the division, anger, violence, and insensitivity may deliquesce and the world may slowly recover. Thank you for your kind remarks and well wishes! I appreciate you very much! God bless and much love...Meghan!

We ARE free and yet we will always be judged by what we say and do...the paradox of life. I will ponder your thoughts today, Megan, have a good one. Hugs, John

Thank you so much, John! I agree that we are supposedly free, yet seemingly judged and pressured so often to feel and think certain ways. Luckily, those of us with strong minds and confident views will remain free in all ways. I will ponder your thoughts, too. I always appreciate your wise words! Thanks again!! God bless and much love...Meghan
