The Fringe Poet I do not know?

What Is Power

If I could seize total power
What exactly would that be?
To do absolutely anything I want
While leaving no access to me?

To dazzle and to shock
Those who will not recognize
That I have so much to give
Yet they always avoid my eyes

If I could flash some money
And lure them to my understanding
How long before I grow tired
Of their disheartened flattering?

And if I were Superman
Assuming total invulnerability
How long before their servitude
Becomes just another annoyance to me?

And if I had a spaceship
With the power of the Enterprise
How long before their worship
Would put a glaze across my eyes?

And if I were God
Wouldn't creation be my character?
To live and to let live
Instead of a malevolent dictator?

To discover the nature of power
Is a lesson utmost essential
Perhaps power is the looking inward
Toward MY untapped potential
