What I Saw

I recognized myself today
but when I looked into the glass
I had to turn away .
What I saw, was that really me .
Or just the demon I had turned out to be .
I lived this life , but nothing was free
of pain and hurt and misery
                                    pleasure is not happiness
but happiness is a pleasure .
and when you reach life's bitter end
                                    how will you have measured

                                                           James.........................................

James, this is very sad but you leave the question of how will we measure our lives. They can only be measured by how we have lived them and what we have given and received as fellow humans. Nothing worth having is free, happiness has to be earned and worked at too, life is not meant to be easy but it is to be enjoyed not endured. I liked this write! Thought provoking, I am still thinking.....
