What Dreams May Come

Bill sweats his life out loading boxes on the dock. He eats, sleeps and breathes by the ticking of the clock. Has a dead-end job that can barely make ends meet. Wonders why the grass is greener across the street. Chorus: Some dreams flash across the sky, in a burning flame of light. Most dreams fade slowly away, into the dark of the night People dream of having fame, dream of gold and diamond rings. Some try not to dream because, they know what broken dreams will bring. Jane smokes two packs a day, drinks a bottle each night. Has a tire around her hips, her lid’s not on tight. She’s given up all hope of finding Mr. Right. Now she only cries and screams when she dreams at night. Repeat Chorus: Some dreams flash across the sky, in a burning flame of light. Most dreams fade slowly away, into the dark of the night People dream of having fame, dream of gold and diamond rings. Some try not to dream because, they know what broken dreams will bring. Sue left for the city, had a modeling gig. She knew she had what it would take to make it big. Momma prayed for her baby not to come to harm. They found her today with a needle in her arm. Repeat Chorus: Some dreams flash across the sky, in a burning flame of light. Most dreams fade slowly away, into the dark of the night People dream of having fame, dream of gold and diamond rings. Some try not to dream because, they know what broken dreams will bring.

this is such a powerful and poignant poem filled with the sadness that comes with broken dreams. The chorus anchored the other two verses quite well. Your words were grounded in truth, a harsh truth that my younger brother faced. He died with the fragility of his dreams still buried in his heart and soul. This poem is brilliant! enjoy the evening, Sara

Dear, Jerry, This is such a poignant reflection on everyday life's struggles and shattered dreams. Your words show individuals grappling with their aspirations and the harsh realities they face. I liked the repetition of the chorus which emphasizes the fleeting nature of dreams and the different paths they may take. This is a very heartfelt and thought-provoking piece about the fragility of our dreams. - Blessings, Daniel

Thanks, David. I think that for every dream that comes true, there are thousand that are shattered.

I like to call myself one. But most people would disagree.
