What Days We Had
what days we had!
memory young in summer's sun,
bathed in love, a catching glow,
what years we had!
smiles melt like lemon ice,
family, faces, children grow,
what times we had!
towncar dreamt while floating past,
a short, wise cracking so-and-so!
can lives fade dull in polished night?
to ask is not the same,
as wanting not to know,
we mind,
we weep,
we carry on,
we wait for what all must undergo,
but oh, the times we'll have!
moments hung on heaven's promise,
to see again, soon old friend,
that crooked smile again,
tomorrow.
