What Could Have Been

I wish that I had always been The only one to hold your heart, And yet I had to let you fly, With wings so new they’d barely dried I wish I could have been your sun, And warmed your darkest days with light; I wish I could have been the hand That calmed the storms you kept inside I wish I could have built my life With you much sooner than I did; I wish you could have been my wife, And that your children were my kids.
