Wedding Day
My in-laws came like they were forced;
My grandma broke her wrist.
My pink bouquet my mother sourced,
Objections (mine) dismissed.
My husband’s suit was corduroy
And he refused a tie
But just his presence brought me joy;
On that I could rely.
The rabbi said the blessings then
The in-laws promptly left,
But happy feelings rose again
And no one felt bereft.
The turkey meal was next unveiled.
(It was Thanksgiving Day.)
Now 42 more ships have sailed;
We’re older now, and gray.
Yet looking back, I marvel at
The sureness in our vow,
A wedding promise made and that
We both still honor now.
