Wearing Mama's Gown
Scrunchy loud turquoise satin
Bustling and rustling
Dedra tiptoes onto a balcony
wondering if her mother knows
Delighting in the oranges
Unaware she is the prettiest
Entity in the landscape
Her mother smiles
Looking toward the woods
Glimpsing welcoming leaves
Showing off in her presence
Yet unaware of her beauty
Turquoise gown made for her mother
Reminding her of the last time she
saw her mother.
Dedra smiles.
Worn today just because
Found in her grandmother’s attic
The one item her father had not destroyed
After her mother died,
Saved by grandma
Unbeknownst to him.
