We the People
To the Government of Our Nation:
I've a Few Things to Say to You,
and If You're a Vietnam Veteran,
Maybe You'd Care to Hear this Too.
I Was Just a Little Boy,
When You Called My Daddy Away,,
I Grew up Without Him....
He Is Still Not Here Today.
How Do You Tell a Little Guy,
Who Is Six, Almost Seven,
That His Daddy Is Missing in Action,
or Maybe Even Gone to Heaven.
I Want to Believe He Is Still Alive.
You Promised They Would All Come Home.
Well, That Has Been Years Ago,
and Now this Boy Is Grown.
Did You Forget the Promises You Made?
Not All of Them Have Been Kept.
I Think a Lot of Them Are Still There,
and "We the People" Are Not Through with You Yet.
I Have a Worn out Snapshot,
of My Dad Standing Proud and Tall.
I Have this and a Small Piece of Granite,
Where His Name Is Carved on the Wall.
