We Sat Together
We sat together, almost every morning
having our breakfast and our coffee
as the music played.
Often, we drifted off
mesmerized by its solitary beauty
contemplating life's wonders and all the could have beens.
It the words unspoken and well known
the meanings lie within in awe
of love and beauty uneasily conveyed.
Did we go there? Had we made the trip to Italy
and together let it reveal
the magnificence beheld.
You had been there once
but I had never traveled cross the sea
yet saw it clearly thru your eyes,its mystery kept safe in memory.
In those pooled blue depths, I could see it still
in your childlike innocence
flowing like the rhyhm in the song.
I should never go there now
without you and alone, its call lived
only with you to guide me.
To sit together, just one more time
would be a pleasure to endure
in the quiet solitude of my heart's allure.
