We Promise To Visit Soon

We Promise To Visit Soon

By Elton Camp

He looks for a car in the drive
Perhaps today they will arrive

They promised that they will
A visit would be such a thrill

Long, lonely days now for Clyde
His disappointment is hard to hide

The children grown, moved away
They now have but little to say

No more job does Clyde hold
Retired because he got too old

Wife with whom he expected to share
In just an instant, she’s no longer there

Dreary days stretch into sleepless night
For him, nothing has turned out right

The kids have their own lives to live
And little time for old Dad to give

“They’ll soon come, you’ll see.
Because they all promised me.”
