We Must Change
My spirit is kindled with hope and dreams
My ancestors were king and queens
Free from the rules I followed as a child,
When everything was a game and life was so mild
I was raised to be a leader not a thug
People want drugs rather than hugs
It’s sad but when you say black male in next breath you say homicide,
A black president and this country is still of racial divide
So who will be able to transcend the plight
It will always be black and white
Daily I read the bible to clear my mind because I need to be free
So I can see all I can see and just keep being all that I can be
You are living testimony and living proof
There are dreams, there are goals and there's no guarantee
I know that is true 'cause it happened to me.
Lord, What am I to do,
He told me to just keep being you
There will always be unrest and war in our world.
In this world peace is more precious then diamond and pearls
As the moon brings serenity and mystery
I want to use my pen to make a change on my life’s journey
I have a dream for the future but I fear too much change,
I fear once I move on it won’t be the same
Tomorrow comes, and then again, it goes,
And my ambition to become something more, grows and grows.
Now times have changed and I realize nothing is fair,
And sometimes it seems like nobody even cares.
But trust me Jesus sees all and change will come when he appears!
